Recently I have been thinking about my childhood best friend, when we were younger we spent all of our time together. But now there is 300 miles between us, which is not that far in the grand scheme of things, but because of both her and my location, and well life, we don’t get to see each other very often. Sometimes it is years before I see her. Even talking can be months, messages will be few and far between. It doesn’t help that her phone service is not that good where she lives. About 8 years ago, we wrote letters to each other to stay in contact, we would send photos and reminisce about when we were younger. But for some reason that stopped, probably life again!
Letter writing seems old fashion but it is a beautiful way to stay in contact with people. It encourages more meaningful conversations and you know that thought has gone into it, that they have really gone out of their way to write it down on a page and post it, rather than just typing “You ok?” by text.
I love writing letters and even more receiving them. It is nice to get something that isn’t a bill or a subscription letter from a random company I signed up to. Until quite recently I thought that letter writing was a thing of the past. Something that people just did not do any more. But! I was wrong. Penpals still exist and I could not be more excited about it. I found many websites, while brousnig the internet, that can put you in contact with a penpal. You can write letters to people all over the world. You can pick some one in your own country or a different country. You could even have more than one. Penpals are great to learn a different culture, how other people live and even encourage language learning. There is so much to gain from letter writing, whether it be to a friend or someone across the world. *Remember to be safe when speaking to strangers online, if something doesn’t feel right, don’t give them any of your contact information.*
Letter writing is beautiful and I’m excited to say that I am implementing it in to my life. I have signed up to a penpal website as I love to learn about different people, cultures and countries and I believe this is a great way to do it. I hope to reconnect with my friend so I have wrote her a letter too. Will you write to someone?
Have a nice day!
