Day 74 Toilet Paper…

Over the years, people have become more conscious of the strain that we cause on the planet, with more people making an effort to limit this damage. Most people have become more familiar with recycling, reducing single use plastics and switching to paperless. But, there are many hidden habits that we have, that we don’t realise are bad for the environment. One of these things is our toilet paper usage. Don’t worry I’m not giving it up! Simply switching to a more eco-friendly alternative. Recycled toilet paper!

When new toilet paper is made it uses a lot of the planets resources, as well as chemicals that are damaging to the environment.

Worldwide, the equivalent of almost 270,000 trees is either flushed or dumped in landfills every day and roughly 10 percent of that total is attributable to toilet paper.

Recycled toilet paper has less of an negative impact, as it uses materials that have been recycled, it requires less water and encourages a reduction in landfill. Some recycled toilet paper use a mix of recycled and raw materials, however there are 100% recycled toilet papers out there. To spot them, check for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) labels, FSC Recycled is ideal as it mean that the product is made of 100% recycled materials, however if you can’t find this, go for FSC Mix which means it is made of recycled and raw materials.

There are many recycled toilet paper options out there, some are expensive and seemingly much more than non-recycled toilet paper, but there are some that are reasonably priced. Waitrose offer their own brand ECOlogical Toilet Tissue at £4.00 for 9 rolls, which is only 25p more than their Essential Toilet Tissue. If you like to bulk buy, Amazon’s Presto offer an ECO Toilet Tissues at £23.68 for 45 rolls. Both of these options are made of 100% recycled paper and are FSC certified. I look forward to trying these brands next time I purchase toilet paper. Keep updated on Facebook.

Already use recycled toilet paper? Any recommendations, let me know!

Have a nice day!
